CMOR : Privacy Policy

CMOR has taken a strong position on the issue of privacy. We believe that a critical part of our role is to balance the need for information with the privacy rights of respondents. As a result, CMOR has developed a Respondent Bill of Rights that describes the principles governing the researchers' responsibility to respondents.
CMOR has also worked extensively on both the state and federal level to bring our message to legislators. We have emphasized our belief that through proper self-regulation and education of the public, we can balance the need for information with the privacy rights of respondents.

CMOR Members
CMOR's membership consists of research companies, their client companies, academic institutions, and other industry associations that share our interests. CMOR provides information about each of its members in the Membership Directory (password protected for "members only") and in our annual printed version of the Membership Directory. This information includes the contact name for the company member, the company name, address, telephone and fax numbers, and email and website addresses provided (to protect the privacy of our members, the only email addresses contained in the Membership Directory section of the CMOR website are those of CMOR members who have expressly agreed to the inclusion of their email address on the CMOR website).

If you do not wish to have any of your information included in the Membership Directory (in either the website or printed version), please contact us in writing (including email). If any of the information provided in our Membership Directory is incorrect or out-of-date, please contact CMOR in writing (including email) with the necessary changes.

In addition, members of CMOR receive correspondences regarding CMOR membership, including any services or studies we may be conducting, as well as CMOR or other industry events through postal mail, courier service, email, telephone and fax. If you do not wish to receive any correspondence from us please contact us in writing (including email) at the address below.

CMOR also provides lists of our members (company name only) to prospective members and at industry events and references our members (company name only) in our government affairs and respondent cooperation activities. If you do not wish to have your company's name disclosed to prospective members, at industry events or used in our government affairs or respondent cooperation activities, please contact CMOR in writing (including email) at the address below.

Consumer Sentinel Program
To help put an end to the misleading practice of sham "surveys" conducted under the guise of legitimate research CMOR has joined forces with law enforcement agencies by becoming a member of the Consumer Sentinel Program. The Program allows organizations to provide information regarding fraudulent activities (whether conducted via telephone, mail or the internet) into a nationwide law enforcement database for investigation and prosecution. To ensure that CMOR respects the privacy of those individuals who alert us about activities conducted under the guise of research (i.e. selling under the guise of research and other abuses of the research process), we require affirmative consent before we transfer a complaint to the Consumer Sentinel Program database. Therefore, if you have learned of such of an abuse of the research process, please contact CMOR. In turn, we will contact the alleged offender and, with your consent, can include your complaint with your contact information in the Consumer Sentinel database.

Non-CMOR Members
Any information obtained about or from non-CMOR members via postal mail, courier service, telephone, fax or in person will be used for the purpose for which it was collected or sent to CMOR. In addition, the information may also be used to send material about CMOR, CMOR activities and industry events. (Any information from non-CMOR members obtained via the CMOR website or via email is addressed in the "CMOR Website/Email" section of this privacy policy).
